It’s hard to believe that I have been in India now for more than two weeks. The initial chaos of moving to a bustling metropolis like Delhi has now mellowed into a rhythm. I’m beginning to appreciate the unique blend of tradition and modernity that defines this city.

Let’s first talk about the heat — Delhi (and neighboring Northern India states) have been experiencing extreme heat this summer, reaching 40°C+ temps for over a month. While I am grateful to have an air-conditioned home and office, I know many others do not. Climate change harms continue to expand their reach, and the oven-like heat in Delhi has re-emphasized for me the importance of not just climate mitigation, but also climate adaption strategies.

Let’s also talk about the work — given the dynamic nature of research-oriented organizations, shifting timelines and priorities, I am working on a slightly different roster of research projects. However, they are still all related to gender, which was the core policy topic I was hoping to explore this summer. I am working on a social media campaign related to anemia (gender x health), a field experiment on soft skills training and employment (gender x labor), and one for ways to more accurately measure domestic violence (gender x safety). I have been really happy to dig into research design and baseline data, and look forward to the rest of the summer.

‘Till next time!
